Onstream Pipeline Inspection Services Inc. is a provider of inline and tethered MFL inspection services to oil and gas pipeline operators, currently servicing the North American market. With Onstream’s commitment to technological advancement, excellence, continued growth and development, we are now seeking a Health & Safety Manager based out of our Calgary, Alberta office.

Overseeing our Canadian and US operations, the Health and Safety Manager will identify, develop and deploy business-driven health and safety strategies designed to engage and keep our workforce safe, and the business compliant with all regulations. As an integral leader of our safety culture, you will be responsible for designing, communicating, and maintaining all safety and health regulations within the company. This requires strong collaboration across all departments within the organization, as well as to our valued customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Applying knowledge of current and upcoming health and safety strategies, procedures, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Developing and coordinating health and safety systems/strategies meeting and exceeding organizational and compliance requirements
  • Aligning with management to address health and safety issues and drive implementation of new initiatives
  • Conducting field audits to monitor employees on safe work practices
  • Ensuring D&A compliance is followed and kept up to date
  • Overseeing vehicle fleet E-log system (migration to and compliance with)
  • Ensuring online safety systems are kept current with accurate data (Safety Sync, Geo-trac, Quickbase, etc.)
  • Hands-on supervising of all field staff journey management requests
  • Tracking and auditing organizational performance and compliance against policies, programs, and procedures
  • Advising and representing the company during regulatory actions
  • Reviewing and developing work and site plans, which supports a safe workplace environment
  • Attending necessary operations meetings to review health and safety concerns and issues
  • Participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings
  • Develop and conduct monthly safety meetings on topics designed to promote a better understanding of company policies, programs, procedures, and general health and safety
  • Responding in timely fashion to incident; lead completing all incident investigations
  • Tracking and overseeing regular reporting of health and safety metrics to develop KPI’s to drive the business toward exceeding organizational compliance goals
  • Work with operations group to ensure safe work procedures are developed and appropriate for all field operations
  • Ensure compliance with client’s HSE policies and procedures
  • Perform safety audits as required by policy and legislative requirements
  • Provide or coordinate HSE training as required
  • Work with Regional HSE Manager to manage WCB cases and creation of return to work/modified work plans
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned by the VP Operations

Education / Experience / Certifications

  • Hold a safety and or environmental degree or 4 year bachelor degree or 5+ years as a safety officer in a utilities environment with hands on working experience in a Safety Management System (SMS).
  • CRSP designation (asset)
  • Root Cause Analysis accreditation (asset)
  • Energy Safety Canada COR Internal Auditor certification (asset)
  • Valid Class 5 AB Driver’s License, clean driver’s abstract
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR, H2S certification
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, able to adapt to competing priorities
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Meeting Background Check and Drug Screen requirements for the position
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a cohesive team, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility regarding scheduling (open to working nights or days for auditing)
  • Flexibility with travel as 60% of the position would be field level auditing and mentoring
  • Willingness and ability to routinely work a variety of shifts with extended hours
  • Must be able to adapt to changes in work environment, travel, and weather
  • Direct oil and gas (pipeline/midstream) experience required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with inspection (pipeline/fabrication) experience
